Ben Jelen Illustration

October 30, 2007 on 1:46 pm | In Illustration | No Comments

This week’s FR*A article is on Ben Jelen. I didn’t want to use the same promo pics for the article cover so I decided to put together an illustration. Ben Jelen’s new album “Ex-Sensitive” is about the planet Earth and the problems we face on a global scale. Taking this knowledge I wanted to portray Ben playing a piano made up of trees… I didn’t want it to be too literal so I went for a subtle hint by overlapping images.

Steps 1 - 4…

The final image actually made the article cover, but the below is the billboard image on the site:

Tatum Jones

Talented R&B / Soul group Tatum Jones approached me about a new logo / logofont. At first they just wanted a logotype. They knew that they wanted a personalized Century Gothic type as well. When I dug into the project however, I really wanted to push for a logo comprised of the group’s initials. The following were the final three versions of what I envisioned. I believe the group is going to stick with the 3rd choice.

Skulls and Wings part deux

I started on this skull and wings shirt a while back, even before the other marine skull and wings shirt. It’s finally nearing it’s sampling life. It all started with vector comps…

I got a final image I was happy with then flirted with some colors.

And a winner emerges.

BTW - Sometimes you wanna go bonkers with these shirt designs but you gotta hold back… it may be only cents more for additions here and there… but multiply that by 1000’s and all of a sudden one color and one hit doesn’t sound so bad. So the lesson? Buy FR*A!

Eisley Illustration

Just wrapped up an Illustration for an article on the band Eisley. You can see the article at FR*A.

I knew what look I wanted from the very beginning… not sure if it came into fruition, but a deadline’s a deadline!

So here’s the drawing I started off with…

I wanted the illustration to mostly be line work with watercolor looking splashes overlapping, so here was my first layer of colors:

And then some more…

Now to smear it up:

Add on some type, throw in an autotraced Eisley logo and some photoshop tricks and I’m done!
