Skulls, they gives you wings!
August 27, 2007 on 7:01 pm | In Apparel | 2 CommentsYet another shirt graphic. The first one I did for the 325 Airborne division was a falcon. This time they wanted a skull.
So here was the sketch comp I sent them:

They approved it and so I went online and found some refs. Once I found the elements I needed, I mocked it up in photoshop:

I actually like the way the reference/photo comp looks best, but this is a graphic to be silk screened; so on to the final vector:

and voila! I’m on to the next project.
The Pink Spiders
August 16, 2007 on 1:44 am | In Illustration | No CommentsI really like this band, The Pink Spiders. I don’t know why everyone in America isn’t singing along to their songs, but oh well. I recently did two designs of the band.

The above image is reference to an old David Carson piece from the now defunct Ray Gun magazine. Man, I miss that one.
Nelly x Missy
August 12, 2007 on 2:00 am | In Illustration, Apparel | 2 CommentsNeeded to do an image for a possible Nelly vs Missy shirt - so I first got some pics and vectorized them in Illustrator. Grabbed some text and other elements…

Then on to the general composition… during this stage I’m moving elements around, adding in shapes, really just trying to organize the elements.

I knew from the beginning that I wanted to do an “ink blob” type of image so of course the splatters needed to be thrown in (simply to be a lazy rip off artist).

Since this is supposed to be for young teenage girls, the colors are added accordingly.

Drowning Pool
August 8, 2007 on 1:25 pm | In Illustration | No CommentsI just finished up an illustration of metal band Drowning Pool. You might remember them from their single, “Bodies”. Since then the singer tragically passed away and the band has gone through some singers. They’re getting ready to release a new album with Ryan McCombs (former Soil singer) on vocals.
Here was the rough draft I put together -

Then the refined drawing -

And last the final image -
