Sometimes I get asked to create vector images for existing apparel lines. They either use them to advertise with, or to use as a template. Usually it’s just tedious, but at times you can really get into the beauty of simple lines and the varying line weights.

Sample, sample, sample

I got a couple of projects in the works, but I can’t post anything about them for a bit.
In the mean time life at First Star goes on.
I did a shirt design for Cathy Williams of the Buffalo Soldiers, and now I’m in the process of finalizing a new batch. For the printing job we’re going through a company named Paul Kasso. Paul’s a real cool guy and his attention to detail is excellent.

On our first batch we did some white based prints, but we really needed a black version.

And so Paul did a sample for me on a black T

I approved it and now it’s being made by the hundreds.

Say bye to Susanna, and I’ll be back with more work.

I started on this piece a couple of entries back and knew that it wasn’t finished.

So I picked at it for a while and now I THINK I’m finally done. Maybe it was better before or maybe the best solution is in the middle, either way this is where it will stay for now.

I met up with two good friends of mine for dinner tonight. I went to Chatsworth High with both of them and somehow after 9 years of post high school life we are still friends. One of them is happily married and is in a transitional phase in life. She’s taken an interest to screenwriting, so I hope that takes her in a good direction. The other friend is in “sheriff academy”… not sure if that’s what they call it, but you know what I mean.

One theme that kept coming up through out dinner was the fact that everyone in the group felt like an adult now. When we turned 18 we didn’t feel like adults yet, although technically we were. When we turned 21 it was no big deal, it just became easier for us to buy alcohol. Even graduating from college or serving 4 years in the marines didn’t do it. When the sheriff in training asked us to keep May 23rd available (for his graduating ceremony) that’s when something clicked. Now we all have to schedule weeks ahead of time just for us to meet with each other. We gotta skim through our organizers or look through our BlackBerry’s to see if we’re not already doing something on a weekend 3 months from now.

These are the same two friends who I used to skip school and go to the beach with. We would plan to do whatever we felt like. I went to college in San Diego with one of them for two years, and even then, with us living on our own for the first time, we felt more free than ever before.

I guess this is where the readers start to mumble, “welcome to the real world”, “stop whining”, etc. So I will. But you gotta admit, not having to plan weeks ahead of time just to hang out was a privilege you didn’t know about until adulthood.
